Today the book I’m going to show off is :

A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult

A Spark of Light

Expected publication: October 2, 2018 by Ballantine Books

Goodreads Description:

The warm fall day starts like any other at the Center—a women’s reproductive health services clinic—its staff offering care to anyone who passes through its doors. Then, in late morning, a desperate and distraught gunman bursts in and opens fire, taking all inside hostage.

After rushing to the scene, Hugh McElroy, a police hostage negotiator, sets up a perimeter and begins making a plan to communicate with the gunman. As his phone vibrates with incoming text messages he glances at it and, to his horror, finds out that his fifteen-year-old daughter, Wren, is inside the clinic.

But Wren is not alone. She will share the next and tensest few hours of her young life with a cast of unforgettable characters: A nurse who calms her own panic in order to save the life of a wounded woman. A doctor who does his work not in spite of his faith but because of it, and who will find that faith tested as never before. A pro-life protester disguised as a patient, who now stands in the crosshairs of the same rage she herself has felt. A young woman who has come to terminate her pregnancy. And the disturbed individual himself, vowing to be heard.

Told in a daring and enthralling narrative structure that counts backward through the hours of the standoff, this is a story that traces its way back to what brought each of these very different individuals to the same place on this fateful day.

Jodi Picoult—one of the most fearless writers of our time—tackles a complicated issue in this gripping and nuanced novel. How do we balance the rights of pregnant women with the rights of the unborn they carry? What does it mean to be a good parent? A Spark of Light will inspire debate, conversation . . . and, hopefully, understanding.

My Thoughts:

Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors and A Spark of Light is one of my most anticipated reads of 2018. It sounds like it’s going to be another exciting and emotional novel and I can’t wait to read it.

Do you have this book on your wishlist or TBR?

Happy Reading everyone!!

  1. It’s nearly impossible to put down a Jodi Picoult book and this one sounds to be part of the norm!! I cannot wait to read it. I must say, being a lifelong pro-life supporter, strongly anti-abortion (and this started while I was in junior high, it had nothing to do with religion) it may be a hard read for me if there are parts pushing for abortion rights. However, I feel that Jodi will also cover pro-life aspects as well. This is what makes her such a fabulous author. She’s not afraid to tackle subjects from every angle. I can’t wait to get my hands (or should I say eyes) on this book!!!!!!

  2. I used to love the author, but I think now she is simply writing the same legal plot over and over, kind of like John Grisham. I’m looking forward to your review to help me decide.

  3. It’s definitely on my TBR…my request is pending on Netgalley since last week, so my fingers are crossed! But I will definitely buy it if I don’t get the ARC! She’s one of my favorites, so I won’t miss this one and I love the synopsis. Great pick for the week! 🙂

    • Sounds like a lot of people are pending. I know there was one up on NG for a while but it was just the first chapter. How frustrating. Here in Canada, I can only wish for it and hope it’s granted or if an arc comes my way. If not I’ll be hitting the library too 🙂 ❤

  4. Definitely sounds like its going to quite emotional. I like how Jodi never shies away from the hard topics. Keeping an eye on this one. Thanks for sharing 🙂
