My Mom’s Take – I Liked My Life by Abby Fabiaschi (Guest Review)

I definitely got my love of reading from my mother. I remember sitting on my bed as she read “Little House on the Prairie” to me. As I got older, I would practice by reading to her. Over the years she had other projects she worked on and didn’t read as much. But lately, she’s been reading a lot more. I often talk about books I’m reading or reviewing, and there have been a few books she decided to read too. I asked her if she would like to write a guest review for my blog sometime and she said she would like that. The first book my mom reviewed was “The Great Alone“, and she enjoyed it. Now she’s reviewing another book she really enjoyed. This is her take on “I Liked My Life“.

Well…I really liked this book!

A family dealing with the sudden loss of their wife, mother, sister, and friend. All of them are trying to cope with their feelings and why this happened. The characters and their emotions seemed very realistic and for myself, I could identify having had a childhood friend die suddenly and only finding this out on the day of her funeral. All of the memories and emotions flooding in and the finality of it all. I had my own ideas of what happened with Maddy and was so tempted to jump to the end to see what really did. I resisted though and was surprised and gratified with how the story came to a close.

This was such a wonderful, and thought-provoking read. The characters were well-developed and the plot was great…loved it!

  1. Love your closeness with your mom! My parents also encouraged me to read a lot when I was younger, including Little House on the Prairie. I definitely got a lot of book recommendations from my mom, although sometimes our reading tastes do not match that well 🙂

  2. I love this idea, of your mum reviewing books she liked on your blog.
Also, I welcome how short and simple her review is.
Sorry to hear about her friend who died when she was little, I can empathize with her because the same thing happened to me when I was little.
Anyway, the book sounds really good.

    • It is a lot of fun having her write her reviews. I’m sorry to hear that the same thing happened to you. It was definitely hard on her. I imagine it was hard on you as well.
This really was an excellent novel. I read it last year and really enjoyed. My mom decided to read it recently and really enjoyed it too.
