Throwback Thursday – Five Days Left by Julie Lawson Timmer

throwbackthursday

Throwback Thursday is a meme created by Renee at It’s Book Talk to share old favorite books rather than just the new shiny ones. This is a great idea to bring back to life some much-loved books. Please feel free to join in.

My choice for this week is: Five Days Left by Julie Lawson Timmer

Goodreads Description:

Mara Nichols is a successful lawyer, devoted wife, and adoptive mother who has received a life-shattering diagnosis. Scott Coffman, a middle school teacher, has been fostering an eight-year-old boy while the boy’s mother serves a jail sentence. Scott and Mara both have five days left until they must say good-bye to the ones they love the most.

Through their stories, Julie Lawson Timmer explores the individual limits of human endurance and the power of relationships, and shows that sometimes loving someone means holding on, and sometimes it means letting go.

My Thoughts

I read FIVE DAYS LEFT a few years ago and it is another one of those books that has stayed with me. I read it in just over two days. I would have read in one sitting but of course life got in the way. So many parts of the story really hit home for me. This book deals with some serious issues in a respectful way. Very well written with well-developed, wonderful characters. I loved, Scott and Mara along with many other characters.

FIVE DAYS LEFT is an engrossing read that you won’t want to put down. However, it’s very emotional at times, so be sure to have some tissues nearby.

This was my first read from Julie Lawson Timmer. I have since read her most recent novel UNTETHERED, which I also really liked. I’m definitely a huge fan and I’m really looking forward to more from this author.

  1. This is one of my favorite books! It was so poignant and emotional. I think I cried reading almost the entire book. I’ve recommended it to so many people. Being a mother it pulled every heartstring, but I completely understand her decision. Just heartbreaking and full of love at the same time!! I just got Timmer’s newest book on Amazon this week and am so excited…Mrs. Saint and the Defectives. It was free with my Amazon Prime for the month but I think it’s on Netgalley. It looks quirky but really good!! ❤😊

      • I haven’t read Untethered, but I’m sure it’s good! Oh, I’ve never gotten over reading Five Days Left. It just stayed with me for some reason. I didn’t realize she had a new one either until I got the email from Amazon to pick my free monthly book! I was thrilled to see her book since sometimes their choices are iffy, lol!! I hope you find it!! 🌻
